Work-life balance is not just a buzzword. It’s not a myth either. Our very own Marc-André—call him Marco—doesn’t just manage multiple departments at the Laura Canada head office, he’s first and foremost a father of three. With the task of managing more than one department, Marco has found a way to balance a heavy workload and quality time with his family. We had the chance to ask Marco a few questions to see how he does it all.
Hello Marco, we know you have many responsibilities in your position at Laura Canada. Can you describe a typical day at work?
It’s hard to describe a typical day at the office because my days are never the same. Since I oversee e-commerce, digital marketing, customer service and CRM—I usually start my day by making the rounds. I stop by each department to make sure everything is running smoothly. With a few departments to stay on top of, I spend some of my day in meetings with different supervisors. I also spend time looking at what other companies are doing, meeting with buyers and supervising my teams.
How do you manage your responsibilities at home?
I have two boys, ages 8 and 10, and a 5 year-old daughter. My wife and I share the responsibilities around the house. From cooking meals to helping the kids with homework and extracurricular activities, we both do it all.
Do you have any hobbies outside of work?
Yes, once the kids are in bed I make time for hockey. I play once a week.
Is your life everything you imagined it would be when you were younger?
It’s hard for me to answer that question because I didn’t think that far ahead. But I’m proud of what I’ve accomplished so far.
Do you think you’ve achieved the perfect work-life balance? Why?
Yes, because I have a flexible schedule. Working in e-commerce is a 24/7 job, so the hours aren’t always 9 to 5. Sometimes I work from home outside of normal office hours. This helps me manage my schedule to make room for quality time with my family.
